Mr. Gabe performs nursery rhymes, folk songs, and modern favorites (such as “Yellow Submarine” and “La Bamba”) for children, ages zero to six. Based in Takoma Park, Maryland, he appears frequently at libraries, cafés, pre-schools, and performing arts centers throughout suburban Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. His résumé includes tenures at Politics and Prose, Washington’s premier independent bookstore, and the Hyattsville, Maryland location of Busboys and Poets, where Mr. Gabe started the popular “rise and rhyme” program on Monday mornings. He is a regular performer at the weekday Boogie Babes concerts near Capitol Hill. In 2012, Mr. Gabe released his first CD, Play Date. Recorded with the help of several talented local musicians (including Michael Shereikis of Chopteeth), Play Date is a tuneful mix of traditional children’s songs, family-friendly pop songs, and originals, the latter drawing on Mr. Gabe’s experiences as a stay-at-home dad. The album won a Parents’ Choice Recommended Award and was nominated for a Washington Area Music Award. Recently, Mr. Gabe began appearing with his band, the Circle Time All-Stars, a trio featuring Holly Montgomery on bass and Chelle Fulk on violin. Besides playing fiddle and electric violin with her Celtic music band, Keltish, Fulk performs with Coyote Run, and has appeared with String Theorists. Montgomery is a bass player and singer-songwriter who relocated to the DC area after spending many years in Los Angeles as a performer and session musician.
“Listening to Mr. Gabe sing is like hearing an old friend telling stories on the front porch swing.” — Ashley Jo Farmer, Parents’ Choice Foundation “With his dextrous guitar playing and cheerful arrangements of favorite children's songs, Mr. Gabe is the Pied Piper of Takoma Park." — Karen MacPherson, Children’s Librarian, Takoma Park Maryland Library
